Big News!!!

January 18th, we found out some VERY exciting new. Our little bun in the oven is a GIRL!!!

I thought she was a girl all the time, but then again, I thought the same thing when I was pregnant with Cohan. Scott thought she was a boy the whole time and thought that with Cohan too. Looks like we each had a chance to be right!

Cohan, on the other hand, NEVER wavered. Anyone that would ask him what was in his mommy's tummy, he ALWAYS answered "my baby girl." He said he was having a sister. I don't think that he understands how sister and girl are related and brother and boy are related. However, he KNEW he was having a baby girl that would be his sister.

The night before we found out, I had bought some signs for Cohan to hold to announce baby boy or baby girl. Since I sent a picture to our family of Cohan wearing a BIG BROTHER shirt to announce we were pregnant, I only thought it would be right to have Cohan tell everyone. I handed him the Baby Girl rattle first. He was more than happy to say cheese and smile holding the sign. However, when I tried for the Baby Boy sign, he would say, "No Mommy! No boy!" He wanted nothing to do with that blue sign. We bribed him with candy, TV, toys and food. The kid wouldn't give. Cohan did not want to hold that sign. I guess he knew it was a girl!!

When I was telling my mom this story, she said that my older brother was the same way when she was pregnant with me. She didn't know what she was having, but my brother REFUSED to let her get boy stuff. He told everyone he was having a sister and even got me my baby blanket! Thank goodness this baby is a girl; I wouldn't have wanted to be the person to tell Cohan he was getting a brother!!

That day, Cohan was with Nanny since our sitter was sick. When we went to pick him up, there were pink balloons, a pink gift and Cohan had even decorated this sign!

I thought I would get all boys. I secretly wanted all boys. I HATE pink. At first, I was in disbelief. But, as soon as I found out this baby was a girl, I realized I didn't even know I wanted one so badly. There is a special bond between a parent and a daughter. My mom and dad are my best friends. I talk to them both daily. I am so excited to get to raise a little girl. I think moms and daughters have a special bond. I know I do with my mom. I can't wait to do all the things my mom did with me. Don't get me wrong, my little boy is amazing, but I think raising a girl might be a little different.

My family is super excited because this will be the first girl grand baby on my side. Scott's family is excited that Cousin Avery will have another little girl to play with instead of all boys. This is also exciting, because my best friend, Betsy is pregnant with her first child that is also a little girl! I am so excited to raise little girls with a best friend. They will only be a few weeks apart! This little lady is already so spoiled. Here is a little taste of some of the adorableness that comes with finding out you are having a girl!!

First matching PJs.

I am so excited about our growing family and am working hard to embrace the color PINK!!!

First Snow Day of the Year

A few weeks ago, we had a snow day. Coming from Illinois, we never got snow days. Cohan and I welcomed the chance to stay in our PJs and play inside for awhile. As I was getting him dressed, I told him to get out shoes. He picked the snow boots on his own...

After playing, Cohan kept asking to go outside. I decided we needed a few things from the grocery store, so Aunt Boo Boo came over and we headed out.

Cohan LOVED playing outside. The wind was so bad though that it only lasted for a little while.

Then back inside with slippers, warm clothes and time to enjoy a day together!

He Even Dreams About Them...

Cohan has an obsession with tractors. He can spot them from the car and everywhere. The other night, he wanted to take one to bed. This is how we found him. Check out his left hand.

Family Time Saturday

I had been talking to Scott lately about how different life is going to be for us with two kids. We are so comfortable with Cohan. We can take him anywhere, he gets along with everyone, and he's pretty independent. After Christmas break, I had a little sad moment. I realized that spring break will be the last time that it will be just Cohan and I staying home.

Don't get me wrong, I am SUPER excited for baby #2, but am now just realizing how different life will be for Cohan makes me a little sad. I told him yesterday that he was a spoiled little boy. His response was, "Yup!" He gets 100% of the attention and I wouldn't have it any other way.

Scott e-mailed me on Friday and made some family plans for Saturday. I was pretty excited about our family day...

Even though it is January, we have taken Cohan to the park for the last three days with us. He even went Friday during the day with the Ramsey's. That is unheard of. We have loved the weather and he has loved playing outside and taking walks in the neighborhood. Saturday started with breakfast at home and then going to look at some houses for sale. Then of course... the park!

After the park, we headed out to lunch with friends. Then Cohan took a nap before his first trip to a basketball game!

I have been working on research with professors from the University for about two years now. Some were telling me that we should take Cohan to see a women's basketball game. They said how uncrowded the games were, how kid friendly it was and how many kids went. Scott and I had talked about taking Cohan to a basketball game, so we decided to start with the women's game to see if he would even enjoy it. We figured he would last until maybe half time. Boy, were we wrong. Cohan was a clapping, cheering, popcorn eating machine. When the crowd got excited, he would yell, "Go Tigers!" He made friends with the ladies in front of us and the older couple on the side of us. He was high-fiving everyone. Needless to say, we will be returning.

We ended the day with a dinner out at Addison's... just the three of us!

Two Haircuts and a Celebration with Friends

Cohan needed a haircut in a bad way. It was so long it could fit in a ponytail and tuck behind his ears. Everyone commented, but Scott and I liked it long. Finally, we decided it was time to get a haircut. I was really sick, so Scott met his mom at the hair salon so Cohan could get a cut. This is what he came back with...

I was laughing. I thought it looked very feminine. It was still long in the front, but very short in the back. Looked like a cute little bob for a little girl; not my big boy! The next day, I was feeling better, so I took him back. He now looks like such a big boy! Here he is modeling the new Elmo slippers for Aunt Meagan and Uncle Jack that they got him!

For a few years, we always had lots of couples over for a New Year's Eve party. This year, being pregnant, and wanting to hang out with Cohan, we decided not to. We had a few friends and their kids over. No big thing, just dinner, drinks (for the boys; all the girls were pregnant) and letting the kids play. Cohan had a blast. They played, danced and made a mess for hours!

By the time everyone left, Cohan was exhausted. He just wanted to snuggle and I was A-OK with that. Wish we could say that our family was awake to say Happy New Year, but we were all fast asleep. At least we were together!
