Mother's Day

I had a perfect day today that was all about our little family.  We took Scott's mom out to breakfast, headed on some errands, bought a few flowers, weeded and planted flowers and did some outdoor cleaning.  With each of these, Cohan wanted to "help." 

Our garage has turned into a playroom of sorts.  Cohan has tons of outside toys and loves playing with them.  In the winter, we brought them in the house.  Now, we house them in the garage.  When we come home each night, he plays out on the driveway for about an hour until dinner is ready.  Neighbors stop by and he loves it.  Today, while I planted, Cohan and Scott cleaned out the garage.

 There were two things I wanted for Mother's Day.  I wanted to eat outside and to have Scott and Cohan clean my car.  I got both.  The weather was amazing.  We decided instead of the park, we could just have lunch on the backporch.  I had Cohan carry out the napkins.  He was trying to set the table at his picnic table.   

 When Cohan woke up from his nap, the boys started to clean my car.  This ended up being Scott doing pretty much everything.  I remember my dad always cleaning our cars and how I loved to help (or at least I thought I was helping).  I thought that Cohan would love this; I was wrong.  Either way, Scott and I decided that this was an easy thing to do, got us outside and we loved the clean car inside and out when this project was complete!       

 

On a side note, Cohan is pretty OBSESSED with his new bike trailer.  Scott and his family took a long bike ride on Saturday afternoon.  Cohan came home talking all about it.  He wants to ride everyday.  While Scott was cleaning the garage, Cohan had other plans... 

First, he sat in the bike trailer.  Next, he found Scott's bike and moved the bike trailer behind it.  Then, he tried to hook the bike trailer up to the bike.

Being a Mom...

     When I think about what it means to be a mom, so many things come to mind.  My life changed forever the day I became a mom.  As I started looking back at pictures of Cohan when he was a baby, I noticed that I am absent in most of them.  I know this is because I am the one behind the camera; afraid I will miss something.  That is what it feels like to be mom.  I NEVER want to miss anything.  I would choose hanging out with him over a night out any day.  My priorities changed when I became a mom.  Make-up, straightened hair, new bags and clothes did mean as much to me.

I also think that being a mom has made me look at my own mom differently.  I have a new respect for her, how she raised us and the unconditional love I have always felt from her.  We always say that we won't be like our moms, but I would be humbled if my kids thought of me in the same respect I think of my own mom.  She gives and gives and gives.  She is able to make me feel better from over 200 miles away.  For this I am so thankful.

    

I know that Scott feels the same way about his mom.  We talk all the time about how lucky we are to have involved parents.  My mom always told me you can tell a lot about a guy by the way they treat their mother.  Scott, Cohan and I are lucky to  these two women in our lives.

I know that Mother's Day is just a "Hallmark Holiday."  But, I really do love that it gives me a chance to reflect on being a mom and how much I love it.  It also makes us take a step back and thank the moms in our lives. 

When you are a mother, you are never really alone in your thoughts. A mother always has to think twice, once for herself and once for her child.

Friday Night with Cousins

Yesterday, we went to Scott's parents for dinner.  His aunt was in town from Kentucky.  Cohan was so excited to see Avery and Mack!!

It is so fun to watch the three of them play so well together.  They really will grow up together. 

Soon Lincoln and Ireland will be right there with them!

Swim Lessons

Cohan started swim lessons on Tuesday.  We got him private lessons at the ARC and split it with our friends, Corey and Cami.  Their son Carson, is 6 months younger than Cohan.  Scott got in with Cohan, since I don't have a suit and wouldn't want to go near one right now anyway!!

I love this, and we will be going for the next three weeks every Tuesday and Thursday.  Our goal is to get Cohan used to the water again. 

So far, so good!! 

First Bike Ride

Last weekend, we got a double pull behind carrier for Cohan to ride in while biking.  It rained all last weekend, so Sunday (once it cooled down), Scott was anxious to take him for a ride.  While Cohan napped, Scott worked on getting it hooked up.  He wanted to test it to make sure it was safe. 

As soon as Cohan woke up and heard his dad in the garage, he was anxious to go out too!  We headed over to Jack and Meagan's because they wanted to go for a bike ride too.

As Uncle Pooh (Jack) got him strapped in, he was more than ready to get going.  Here is his "CHEEEEEESE!" face! 

I was worried he would be freaked out, but boy, was I wrong! 

As soon as Scott got back from a little spin with him, he told Jack, "Pooh's turn!"  Cohan was not ready to get out yet!

Jack, Meagan, Matt, Scott and Cohan all went on a nice bike ride.  Cohan loved every minute of it!

Then, of course was ready for dinner...

The poor kid is probably sick of me taking pictures.  Now that I have a nice camera, I want to try everything and learn all about it and he just so happens to be my subject...

Baby Sofia was there and he couldn't wait to hold her and give her kisses!!!

Meagan and I got the same camera, so it's been nice learning with her.  Matt gave us lessons on how to use different settings.  I can't wait for all the awesome pictures to come!!

On a side note, Scott and I decided to take our house off the market for awhile.  I am really excited about it.  This will allow us to "live" in our house again and enjoy the summer with Ireland and Cohan.  This weekend, I was able to put things back where I like them and get lots of Cohan's toys back out.  He was excited to have his Lazy Boy back!
