BIG POST---Toots is Back, St. Nick's Day, Gingerbread Houses, Train Rides & SANTA

Toots, our Elf on the Shelf,  came for the first time last year.  He is back this year.  Santa (aka GramMo) sent the kids a letter with a jersey for Toots when he arrived.  Cohan was super excited since Cohan was a basketball player for Halloween.  That was all Cohan needed to start watching for Toots.  He showed up for the first time in a bowl with a basketball.  Cohan loved it.  He has been pretty good, not gotten into too much trouble and even brought the kids a Santa book one day they both had great days.  A couple times he had such good spots he decided not to move.  Oops.  Today, he decided to hide in the pantry since we have some sneaky kids that like to sneak treats.
St. Nick also came and the kids were so excited.
Sunday, we decided to decorate our Gingerbread House.  This meant that Cohan and Ireland were really just the contractors.  They told us what to do while they hoarded candy in their cheeks.  Just as quickly as they would place candy on the house, one would take it off.  Pretty hilarious.
I always remember as a kid, opening our Advent calendars and moving the mouse over on the December calendar, with the anticipation of Christmas.  Cohan has been learning all about Advent at school.  He has made several Advent wreathes and is able to talk about the meaning.  Each day when they get home from school, the first thing they want to do is open their Advent calendars... for the chocolate of course.
We were outside talking to our neighbor last weekend and he was saying how he was not really in the mood for Christmas.  It made me sad for him, and all the other people feeling that way.  I told him I would send Cohan over to talk all about how excited he was and maybe it would rub off.

This time of year makes me so happy.  The number one reason??  Because of how excited my kids get.  They love it.  They love the lights, Santa, shopping for kids we have adopted to buy presents for, winter clothes, the possibility of snow and more.  No one can take that away.  One of those exciting things that happens is at the mall.  They have a train for kids to ride.  Of course, ours are too little to go alone.  It is SO EMBARRASSING to ride through the mall on this train, but the excitement on their faces is well worth the humiliation.
And tonight???  We saw Santa!!  Ireland waved the whole time in line.  Smiled, said, "Ho, Ho, HO!"  Then, it came down to it and she freaked out.
Cohan, on the other hand, handled it like a champ.  When I plucked Ireland up to save Santa, Cohan told him, "She's kind of a baby.  She wants books and babies though from you.  She's just scared.  I want transformers... but the kind that really Transform."  Noted.
